Within weeks of wrapping a 3-week Bushfire Recovery operation in the Richmond Valley Region of Northern NSW, on the 25th of November, 2019 Disaster Relief Australia launched Operation Partridge in Willawarrin near Kempsey in the mid-north coast region of NSW. The operation was in response to bushfires that occurred in the region in early and mid November, which resulted in significant home and structural losses.
Five ‘waves’ of Disaster Relief Australia volunteers, joined by their counterparts from TR-Norway, TR-United Kingdom and TR-United States, assisted community members with disaster relief. DRA’s volunteers deploying right through the Christmas and New Year to continue the mission.
Over the six week period more than 100 Greyshirt volunteers worked to provide community members with a range of assistance including: sifting for medals and personal mementos, chainsaw operations to clear fallen trees from fence lines and to allow residents access to their properties, cleaning up debris at destroyed homes, UAV operations to provide damage assessments to assist with insurance claims, fencing repairs, welfare assistance and staging community events to bring people together to share their stories, build community connectedness and to start the healing process.
