BACKGROUND
Disaster Relief Australia and Melbourne DRT are hosting chainsaw training opportunities for members to upskill ready for the future disaster season, and in preparation for a relaunch of Operations in the wake of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
COURSE DETAILS
Chainsaw Level 1 covers the chainsaw basics including trim and crosscut techniques
- Correct operational techniques to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw.
- Chainsaw maintenance.
- Cross-cutting felled trees using safe cutting techniques.
- Apply low-risk work procedures and comply with worksite health and safety requirements when operating hand-held chainsaws to carry out routine work.

WHO CAN APPLY
Those DRA Members who reside in Victoria and Tasmania will be considered as a priority for this training opportunity. Residents of other states MAY be considered, however border restrictions on either leaving or returning home may make this prohibitive.
WHAT IS COVERED
Training Venue, lunches.
Chainsaw Specific PPE will be provided by DRA.
New DRA shirts will be provided.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED
Flights and accommodation are not covered.
Attendees must make their own way to the two venues.
No fuel or travel subsidy will be provided.
Carpooling may be available.
Please note you must bring your own steel cap/composite toe work boots, long sleeve shirt and work pants a must. (Chainsaw PPE will be provided).
Gloves will be required when operating saws.
PREREQUISITES
Members must have reached ENGAGEMENT or DEPLOYMENT READY in Muster to be eligible for DRA Training. If you are waiting on a call or have had trouble setting up your profile, please indicate this in your EOI and the mobilisation team will be in touch to help you out.
Candidates for training must be available for BOTH days of the relevant course.
Members must be physically fit enough to operate and hold chainsaws for extended periods of time in practical training.
An up to date Tetanus injection is a compulsory part of deploying for DRA and is strongly recommended for physical training events as well.
