OPERATION MASON

In Response to: Devastating bushfires

Location: Adelaide Hills

Active: Dec 12, 2020

Get Involved

Are you ready to deploy? Operation Dexter is National, so volunteers from all states and territories are welcome to submit their EOI.

Objective

Disaster Relief Australia, is relaunching bushfire recovery operations to continue the work in Adelaide Hills after the devastating 2019/2020 fire season. Operations were halted in late March due to Covid-19 restrictions, however with consultation with local and state authorities, DRA is able to recommence operations within certain areas.

Background

Vast areas of the Adelaide Hills were impacted by the Cudlee Creek (Hollands Creek Road) bushfire that started on 20 December 2019. It directly impacted the communities of Brukunga, Charleston, Cudlee Creek, Gumeracha, Harrogate, Kenton Valley, Lenswood, Lobethal, Mount Torrens and Woodside. Fire reached the actual townships of Lobethal, Woodside, Charleston and Mount Torrens but fortunately the townships were saved. Disaster Relief Australia deployed five Waves on Operation Hannaford, to the Adelaide Hills area immediately after the initial fires in early 2020.
