July 2021 Spirit Award
Rob Delaney is the longest standing member of the Brisbane DRT leadership group as the Training Coordinator, coming onboard in 2019. Rob is a silent achiever, completing everything asked of him with no fuss. He has a busy life working and volunteering with DRA along with other veterans organisations.
Rob has developed great relationships with the training companies the Brisbane DRT uses and has been able to recruit them into the DRA ranks. Rob is always giving up his time to training course preparations to ensure everything is taken care of and everyone is looked after.
Things always run smooth when Rob is involved. He has also stepped up to help out in the National Training team where he lends his experience to assist other DRT’s with training organising. Rob lives by DRA’s values of Courage, Mateship, Endurance, Service, Tenacity and Respect and is an invaluable member of DRA. We couldn’t do what we do without Rob!

Rob’s tenacity and endurance has been demonstrated by his incredibly long tenure of over 3 years as the Brisbane DRT Training Coordinator. During that time, he has taken every process, leadership, funding and administrative change in his stride, learned quickly how to be effective with the new changes and continued to perform at an excellent standard.
I was initially impressed with Rob, when as the new national training coordinator, I changed some of our processes and needed to conduct a number of training sessions to get everyone on the same page. Rob wasn’t able to attend any of them, but dedicated himself and figured it all out totally independently, then offered some feedback on how we might make them a little more economical.
I have come to think of Rob as a good mate, we end up having a laugh every time we chat, while he is incredibly busy in his professional life, he makes time to individually contact all the people on the courses he is organising to ensure everyone is there, on time and the event is a success. Compounded over 3 years, there few people in the Brisbane DRT who have not known his service in the efforts of theirs, and DRA’s training advancement.
Despite having organised all aspects of dozens of courses each year in support of Brisbane DRT, Rob very rarely attends training himself, despite being told repeatedly that he is more than welcome to. Rob places others before himself, time and again, for many reasons, but among them respect for his position and his mates in the DRT.
Rob is never in the spotlight, I would struggle to find a photo of him, yet the impact he has had on me, the Brisbane DRT and DRA, in general is immense and I am glad to hear that many others realise that impact too, so much so that he is receiving this award. Well done and well deserved Rob!
