Established by Andrew and Nicola Forrest in 2001, Minderoo Foundation is a modern philanthropic organisation seeking to break down barriers, innovate and drive positive, lasting change. Minderoo Foundation is proudly Australian, with eight key initiatives spanning from ocean research and ending slavery, to collaboration in cancer and community projects.
Minderoo Foundation’s Fire Fund was launched early in 2020 to respond directly to the Australian bushfire crisis of 2019/20. The Fire Fund pledged $70 million to support volunteering efforts, revitalise local communities and develop a long-term blueprint for wildfire and disaster resilience in Australia.
The partnership with Disaster Relief Australia (DRA) will see the Minderoo Foundation Fire Fund support us to scale our operations in fire-affected areas across the country. DRA is coordinating deployment and providing on the ground support for recovery efforts. Minderoo Foundation Fire Fund is also meeting travel and accommodation costs for volunteers.
Project Resilience is Disaster Relief Australia’s contribution to the Minderoo Foundation Resilient Communities Initiative. Resilient Communities aims to lift Australia’s 50 most vulnerable communities to be on par with our most resilient ones by 2025. Backed by the skills and experience of military veterans, emergency services specialists and an army of dedicated volunteers, Disaster Relief Australia is empowering communities with projects that build resilience to disasters and foster a sense of community pride.
