Short Term Operation Redland Bay Islands
On 27 February 2025, Tropical Cyclone Alfred formed in the Coral Sea and began its approach towards the South East Queensland region. On 7 March the Tropical Cyclone made landfall in the vicinity of Bribie Island and caused widespread and significant damage before it weakened to a Tropical Low.
Hundreds of thousands of homes were without power and prolonged and intense rainfall caused significant flooding in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
In response, DRA launched National Operation Trew, which ran from 11 March to 10 April and involved 190 volunteers completing more than 250 recovery tasks.
Following Operation Trew, a small collection of work tasks remained incomplete. Volunteers from Queensland South Disaster Relief and Recovery team arranged a Short Term Operation to return to the Redland Bay area to assist residents with these remaining work requests.
