Engagement Project Kangaroo
South Australia volunteers responded to an urgent request from the Kangaroo Pouch Animal Orphanage, a registered not-for-profit wildlife sanctuary run by two ex-Royal Australian Navy veterans. After 18 years caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, the sanctuary faced a critical deadline to relocate 90 kangaroos to their new property in Gemmells.
The sanctuary founders were racing against time to complete essential fencing before a critical deadline. Without this infrastructure in place, these rescued animals would have faced euthanasia.
Disaster Relief and Recovery Team South Australia deployed to the Gemmells property, bringing the skills and experience of volunteers to assist with critical fencing construction.
Works included:
- Construction and installation of chain link fencing
- Tensioning and securing fencing to establish large-scale enclosures
- Assisting with general sanctuary setup tasks
- Providing essential assistance to ensure the sanctuary met its relocation deadline.
