Bushfire Recovery: Cudlee Creek
As the Adelaide Hills community marked the fifth anniversary of the devastating 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfires, DRA’s South Australian Disaster Relief and Recovery Team (DRRT) returned to the area to assist with ongoing recovery efforts.
DRRT SA deployed three teams to a 40-hectare property that was extensively impacted by the fires. Five years after the disaster, the elderly landowner was still struggling to return the property to productive grazing due to numerous dead trees, damaged fence lines, and accumulated debris that they were unable to tackle on their own.
Based at the Lobethal Centennial Hall, DRA volunteers assisted in restoring the property’s functionality in support of the community.
Works included:
- Clearing fence lines and tracks by removing dead Eucalyptus trees
- Establishing new mesh/barb agricultural fencing
- Dismantling and rolling old fencing wire
- Felling dead trees along access tracks and property boundaries
- Collecting, transporting, and stacking cut wood
- Clearing around buildings and machinery in preparation for fire season
