Short Term Operation Mt Helena and Gidgegannup

On the evening of February 19, 2025, a severe weather event caused
significant damage to communities in vicinity of Mundaring (south) and Gidgegannup (north), with reports of wind gusts of up to 90km/h. Although the storm only lasted minutes, it uprooted large amounts of trees and damaged powerlines in the region with widespread power outages affecting up to 8,000 residents.

39 DRA volunteers deployed to the Mt Helena and Gidgegannup areas over two 3-day periods to assist impacted residents with recovery work.

Tasks included:

  • chainsaw operations
  • piling branches
  • debris management
