Short Term Operation Yarralin

The town of Pigeon Hole (Nitjpurru) was rendered inaccessible and evacuated when the Upper Victoria River reached major flood levels on 1 March 2023.

DRA volunteers travelled to Yarralin to assist with the management and operation of an Emergency Accommodation Shelter (EAS) at Yarralin Football Oval.

Working alongside New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS) and the NT Government, DRA assisted with numerous tasks during deployment at Yarralin, including:

• Management, storage, and distribution of supplies and maintenance of accommodation.
• Supported resident induction and accommodation allocation.
• Engaged, socialised with, and supported residents.
• Supported management with planning and logistics as required.
