DRRT QLD North

DRT QLD NTH

DRRT Manager: John Ring

DRRT QLD North was launched in June 2018, and has grown to 200 volunteers. With the formation of DRA’s first Regional Relief Team in Cairns, DRRT QLD North has grown bigger than just one city. Since it was launched, DRRT QLD North volunteers have completed several Short-Term Operations and Community Service Operations. These include:

Short Term Operations

  • Cairns – DRRT Qld North deployed 20 volunteers over 2 weekends in June 2024 to Machens Beach and Holloways Beach to assist property owners with ongoing recovery from cyclone Jasper. During this operation, volunteers assisted 14 families with a variety of clean up tasks including flood recovery work, and debris removal.
  •  Bloomfields – DRRT Qld North deployed 12 volunteers over 10 days in September 2024 to Far North Queensland communities in Ayton, Bloomfield, Degarra, and Rossville.  During this operation, volunteers assisted 17 families with a variety of clean up tasks including flood recovery work, and debris removal.
  • Townsville – DRRT Qld North deployed 20 DRA volunteers in February 2021 to assist Townsville City Council and private property owners in Alice River with flood mitigation and erosion control activities. During this operation, volunteers assisted with clearing of waterways, drains and easements to increase water flow and reduce the likelihood of local flooding.

Community Service Operations

  • Ongoing North QLD & Far North QLD – Legacy NQ and FNQ offering assistance to beneficiaries needing help preparing their properties for storm season. This is also a partnership with RSL Townsville sub-branch to house a DRA office in Quinns Post alongside RSL Advocates and Legacy in Townsville.
